Overview
Is Algo Quant HFT legitimate? Read our guide on how to report crypto fraud, identify red flags, and follow recovery steps for unregistered investment platforms.
How they operate
Algo Quant HFT presents itself as a cutting-edge, high-frequency trading platform specifically designed for crypto assets. The scheme often begins with a professional-looking advertisement or an unsolicited contact on social media. Once you access their login portal, you are prompted to make a deposit to "activate" their automated trading bot. These entities frequently instruct victims to send funds via Interac e-Transfer or to purchase digital assets through reputable Canadian crypto exchanges and move them to an external wallet controlled by the platform. A primary tactic used by representatives is requesting victims to download AnyDesk or similar remote-access software, claiming they need to "calibrate the algorithm" or "assist with technical setup." In reality, this allows them to observe your sensitive banking information. While the dashboard may show impressive daily gains, these are simulated. When the time comes to withdraw your money, the platform suddenly demands "clearance fees" or "anti-money laundering taxes." No matter how many extra payments are made, the funds remain trapped within the fraudulent exchange.
Red flags
- Not registered to conduct securities trading or provide investment advice in Canada.
- Requesting screen-sharing access via AnyDesk to "assist" with transactions.
- Requiring Interac e-Transfers to be sent to unrelated third-party individuals.
- Promises of consistent profits via "High-Frequency Trading" with no market risk.
- Forcing users to pay additional "taxes" or "fees" before allowing a withdrawal.
Official statement
Algo Quant HFT is not registered in Ontario to engage in the business of trading in securities. The OSC issues this warning to caution the public about individuals or companies that may pose a risk to investors.
What to do
Realizing you cannot withdraw your capital from an unregistered platform is a critical moment. You must stop all contact immediately; do not attempt to "negotiate" with the representatives, as this often leads to a second "recovery scam" attempt. If you have utilized AnyDesk on your device, disconnect it from the internet immediately and seek a professional security sweep to ensure no malware or "backdoors" were left behind. Change every password for your bank and crypto accounts from a separate, clean device. If you are unsure how to proceed, we can help you organize the chaos. We offer a guide that breaks down the reporting process into a clear, manageable roadmap. We invite you to report to us your situation; by detailing what happened, our team can provide you with a set of instructions on documenting the fraud for the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and your financial institution. Proper documentation is the foundation for any successful investigation. Connect with our through WhatsApp or File a report for a confidential discussion on your next steps toward financial security.
